Vroooom...sputter...sputter...sputter

Once again C’s father fell down on fatherly duties. I really thought having his new wife in the picture was pushing him to be the father he never was to C. I do think in his own way he is trying, but you know what, his trying just isn’t cutting it. Without fail he manages to either let her/us down by either not doing something or not finishing what he started.

Recently he let C down in a major way. He made a major promise to her and then did not keep it. We managed to handle that on our own, which in a way empowered us both more. I would quickly trade the empowerment for C not being let down by her father though.

In what I believe was his form of retribution for that, he suggested we bring our car that we are about to turn in for lease-end, up to the small town where he lives. It needed some major repair and it would be considerably cheaper there than in the town in which we live. He said he would take care of taking it in and talk to the guys…you know get the “special” treatment.

What a crock that turned out to be.

I should have known when he said the bill was only $277 that they didn’t repair everything on the list. In town I was expected a bill around $800, so I expected something like $500-600 there. It was in the low 80’s when I picked it up, so it started fine. A light did come on while I was coming down the mountain, but I was riding the brakes pretty hard (was behind a very slow pickup truck carrying a cow – where were they going?!), when I turned off the car and restarted, it seemed fine. I hoped that was just hard driving down the mountain. I did not drive it on Sunday. This morning was cool and rainy, when I tried to start my car it idled down and I had to restart it, so it wouldn’t stall out when I started to drive. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! It is not repaired. Breathe. In one, out two, in one, out two.

I do not know what they did, as the receipt is all coded. I can tell they changed the oil & air filter and replaced the brake light. I can also tell there were 5 hours of labor. What did they spend those 5 hours doing? So far it hasn’t stalled out in the more severe way it was (as I was actually driving), but I don’t know if that is fixed or if I have just been lucky.

I do not have the luxury of time to take it back up to Billy Bob Mountain Mechanic, as we can only get up there on the weekends and it needs some body work and other things done to it before turning in. I will get the other things fixed and if I have time I will get this fixed down here, if not, I will have to pray for a dry and warm day when the leasing official inspects it, I guess. I am trying to do the right thing, but there is only so much time to do it in.

C’s father and this car have both continuously let us down…interesting that they finally intersected.
