PstLyfDiva's Safari Adventure

This weekend was our four year anniversary. We had an amazing weekend – did amazing things and really enjoyed each other.

Friday night we went to a chi-chi restaurant for dinner. It was the same restaurant we went to for our 1st anniversary. Started with salmon firecrackers (tempura seaweed-wrapped salmon), then had beautifully present Caesar salads, followed by crabcakes for C and Londbroil with prawns and truffle macaroni and cheese. The truffle macaroni and cheese was the best thing I have ever tasted. Melted in my mouth.

Saturday we got up early and headed to Natural Bridge. Neither one of us had ever been there. C wanted to go to the wax museum, but I saw pictures online that showed The Last Supper and The Crucifixion accompanied by Robert E. Lee…enough said. We skipped the wax museum. Instead we went to the caverns. The caverns were neat and now C wants to go visit every cavern around.

For lunch we had a picnic. Our first picnic out of our new picnic basket: panini, potato salad, caprese salad, mini cheesecake and French lemonade. Everything was delicious.

The real adventure started after that. We went to the VA Safari Park; you drive your car through the animals!! There were zebras, ostrich, emu, llamas, deer, moose, multiple kinds of buffalo, exotic cattle, Vietnamese potbelly pigs and more. You buy buckets of feed and feed them from your car. (I only fed the deer and a small emu after being accosted by an aggressive zebra!) C fed everything – we started out with 4 buckets, but 3 were left along the way with eager animals – the aforementioned zebra, a male moose and a buffalo! “JUST GIVE HIM THE BUCKET, C!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
After the driving section, we went to a walk about area and 2 week old pigs & pygmy goats & a 1 week old llama. The baby llama tried to get up my shirt. Then we fed a giraffe crackers. They have the longest tongues ever!!

We were wiped out after that and stayed in watching movies Saturday night. Sunday we went to see the Da Vinci Code. It was entertaining, not nearly as fast paced or action packed as the book, but not horrible as some of the reviews have made it out to be.

Anyway, that was our anniversary weekend in a nutshell…here’s to 40 more!!
