Have a nice trip?

Crash! Bam! Alakazam!

That was the theme song of Saturday around 4:15pm.

Being the graceful being that I am, while taking the trash out, I fell. The word fell is an understatement…I plummeted off of our front yard, into the driveway (which sits about 18” below), hear a “POP!”, and rolled under C’s Jeep. Fun times.

Writhing in pain, under the Jeep, I screamed, “Help me!” C was inside and I knew she wouldn’t realize it was me letting out this banshee-like scream, so I scream again, “C!!!! HELP ME!!!!!” I heard the front do fly open and C run down the steps. Next thing I know she is over me going, “Oh my god! Do I need to call an ambulance?! I’ll call an ambulance!” I bark back, in a pain-stricken frustration, “I am not dying!”

She finally got me into the house (of course it is up 12 stairs) and I plopped onto the couch with an ice pack on my ankle. She urged me to go to the emergency room, I refused, I despise when people abuse the emergency room. She insisted I get an X-ray. I made her call all the urgent cares in town. Not a single one was open. The one that stayed open the latest closed at 4, 15 minutes before I feel, most closed at 1 or 2 and not a single one was open on Sunday. Finally, about 45 minutes later, when my ankle was the size of a softball I relented and let her take me to the ER.

The hospital is currently under renovations and they have made it terribly difficult to gain access to the ER. All the signs pointing “EMERGENCY” lead you to the ambulance bay, with no walk-in entrance. Finally I tell C to park in the parking deck and I would try to make it in. We park and ride the elevator down to the hospital level. We get off and guess what, no wheelchairs! I hobble 4 steps, holding onto C and stop and rest. Repeat. Finally a doctor walked by and got me a wheelchair. To get to the ER we had to go down two more halls and back up an elevator…that is NUTS!!

The experience improved after that – I registered, had X-rays, saw the doctor and was out in about an hour. I was amazed and everyone was incredibly friendly. I have a severe sprain, tore some of the muscles, but no break. It is wrapped and I am on crutches.

(Side note: the nurse was totally flirting with C, apparently they used to dance together at the club before C and I were together. She was fishing to see if C was with me and when she got her answer she was like, “Ummm…oooooh……ok.”)

C has been a fantastic nurse, making sure I have everything I need. She even made a delicious beef and spinach dinner last night, C never cooks. I am lucky to have her.
