Right after New Year’s C was at work, checking in a patient. She thought to herself, “Wasn’t this guy here like 2 weeks ago? Well it isn’t showing up in the computer under this name, guess I am mistaken.” Next thing C knew the man was running down the hall and out the side door, a nurse was hot on his trail yelling, “Call the cops!” Apparently he was a narcotic seeker, who just a mere two weeks prior had come to the same office! The first time he came in, he used one name, the second time another. Neither was his real name. He was arrested him. The police interviewed C and they said they would be in touch. A week or so later the nurse got a subpoena, C didn’t. Then a couple of detectives came by to ask her to pick him out of a photo line up. We thought that was a little strange, as she got no subpoena and wasn’t going to testify, but hey, it’s not like we deal with criminal law everyday. Then last Thursday, the 8th, I was home at lunch and received a call from the court, saying that the case for which she was subpoenaed that was to be heard the next day was postponed and they would contact her with the new date. Excuse me? What subpoena? (Glad it was delayed, as she would not have shown up.) C called back and they “just didn’t know why she didn’t get it”. The new subpoena showed up Monday. Guess when court is? Just take a wild guess. The Friday we will be in St Thomas; our first real vacation ever. The first day in the 5 years we have been together that she has something going on where she wouldn’t be able to make it to court. Wouldn’t you know it? She called them back – they are deciding if she is vital to the case or they can move on without her testimony. If she is vital they will reschedule.
